Resources from other Mathematicians

Here is a collection of articles, resources and advice written by other mathematicians that I've found useful in my own mathematical journey:
  1. Living Proof, a collection of stories by various mathematicians from their mathematical journeys. (I especially enjoyed the stories in Part II!)
  2. Mura Yakerson's Math-Life Balance Youtube channel.
  3. Sara Billey's Advice for Math PhDs.
  4. Ravi Vakil's advice on attending and getting the most out of seminars.
  5. Jordan Ellenberg's advice on giving talks.
  6. William Thurston's On Proof and Progress in Mathematics. (One of my favourite parts of this article is when progress in Mathematics is compared to a soccer game - there may be one or two noticeable goals in a match, made by one or two players who everyone then remembers, but this does not discount the efforts of the team in the rest of the match because one or two people can't make any goals without a team in the first place!)

Mailing Lists for Announcements

I have found subscribing to the following mailing lists helpful to keep track of conference/workshop announcements (this is for Geometry/Topology specifically):
  1. AlgTop Mailing List
  2. Geometry Mailing List
  3. Geometric Group Theory Mailing List
